Pakistani senior leader and former army major, Tahir Iqbal, broke down in the National Assembly while speaking on the escalating tensions with India, as the situation remains tense following New Delhi’s military action under ‘Operation Sindoor.’

Iqbal, an MP from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ruling PML-N party, became visibly emotional during his speech and appealed for divine intervention to protect Pakistanis from a potential ‘war’ with India.

“Our nation is in agony," he said, and further continued, “I urge all of you to walk together and reconnect with your Lord. I beg before the Almighty to shield our country."

    Fears Of Conflict Grow

Tensions remain high between India and Pakistan, with growing fears of a possible conflict following India’s military response to the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The attack, which took place on 22 April, left 26 people dead—including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. New Delhi blamed Islamabad for the attack, a charge Pakistan has denied.

In retaliation, the Indian armed forces launched drone and missile strikes on Wednesday under ‘Operation Sindoor’ in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Indian forces destroyed nine terror facilities, including those linked to Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba, during a 25-minute-long precision strike involving drones and missiles.

In an official statement, India described Wednesday’s action as “measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible."

On Thursday, India responded to Pakistani attempts to escalate the situation by launching attacks on IAF stations during the night of 7–8 May. According to the Indian government, these attacks were successfully intercepted and neutralised by Indian air defence systems.
