Lee Seung Gi Issues Apology After Father-In-Law Arrested Due To His ‘Wrongful Actions’
In a heartfelt message and apology shared with his fans, the actor expressed deep disappointment and regret to those who were impacted by his father-in-law’s wrongdoings.

South Korean actor Lee Seung Gi recently announced that he and his wife, actress Lee Da In, have cut ties with her family after her father, Lee Hong Heon, was convicted of illicit activities. In a heartfelt message and apology shared through his agency, Big Planet Made, the Korean Odyssey actor expressed deep disappointment and regret to those who were impacted by his father-in-law’s wrongdoings, including stock manipulation.
“It is with a heavy heart that I write this message," he said at the beginning of the letter, as quoted by Soompi, adding that his father-in-law was earlier sentenced to a fine regarding allegations of illegal activities. However, he was indicted recently due to similar activities. Seung Gi added, “As someone who had been waiting for the outcome based on trust within the family, I am devastated and at a loss for words over my father-in-law’s wrongful actions."

He expressed his regret, highlighting that he spoke “carelessly last year without thoroughly reviewing the matters related to my father-in-law." Sharing that he believes that any illegal act must be punished with appropriate punishment, Seung Gi added, “I sincerely apologize to the victims who may have suffered due to my hasty judgment. I am also truly sorry to everyone who trusted and supported me."
Towards the end, the 38-year-old actor mentioned that the “incident has irreparably damaged the trust within our family." Lee Seung Gi further revealed, “After much deliberation, my wife and I have decided to sever ties with her family. From now on, I will strive to uphold the right values and live with a sense of responsibility for a healthier society." He ended the note by once again apologising to the victims.
Lee Hong Heon, Lee Da In’s father, was previously punished for making billions of won by manipulating the stock prices of a company called CORBEAT in 2016. Though he was initially sentenced to four years in prison and was fined 2.5 billion won, which is approximately Rs 14 crores, he was later acquitted. In 2024, the Korean Supreme Court overturned the ruling and ruled him guilty in the retrial.
Once again, Lee Seung Gi’s father-in-law was arrested on the morning of April 29 on the charges of being involved in yet another stock manipulation scandal related to the renewable energy company Quantapia.
FYI, Lee Seung Gi married Lee Da In, the second daughter of actress Kyeon Mi Ri from her first marriage, in April 2023. A year later, the couple welcomed a baby girl.
