India enjoyed a remarkable year as the nation's representatives brought home the ICC T20 World Cup crown, the FIDE Olympiad and World Championship, a record Paralympic haul in addition to other accolades. There were also notable achievements in women's table tennis, men's hockey and tennis and MMA.
The year 2024 witnessed some watershed moments in the sphere of Indian sports as the men’s cricket team clinched the ICC T20 World Cup to put an end to the title drought that had plagued India for over a decade. It was also the year Manu Bhaker scripted history at the Olympics by becoming the first Indian woman to bag two medals in a single edition of the Summer Games. Rohan Bopanna became the oldest player to climb to the World No.1 spot in men’s doubles for the first-ever time at the age of 43. Indian MMA fighter Puja Tomar became the first from the country to pick up a UFC win. The sport of chess enjoyed a landmark year as the Indian men and women’s teams both clinched the FIDE Olympiad before D Gukesh went on to become the youngest World Champion, while Koneru Humpy rounded off he year with her win at the Rapid event.
